How much weight can a standard Olympic barbell hold?

Our Northern 20kg Olympic barbell can handle up to 700kg. Unless you are an elite powerlifter, our Olympic barbells can easily handle your 150kg bumper plate set during your snatches, cleans and jerks.

Do I really need to use collars or clips on the bar?

Yes, every single time. During a set, plates can slide outward on the sleeve, so using a barbell collar protects you from injury or unbalanced lifts. So make sure to lock them down on both sides before doing any lifts.

Will any weight plate fit any barbell?

Always check the hole size on your weight plates and the barbell sleeves. Standard Olympic barbells barbell sleeves are 2 inches (50mm) in diameter, and the plates have a matching 2-inch center hole. Northern cast iron plates and bumper plates has a 2-inch center hole.

What are the benefits of using barbells and weight plates for strength training?

First off, barbells have massive weight capacities, meaning you can heavy-load your lifts and smash your personal records way faster than using basic dumbbells. They are also incredibly versatile, as you can easily switch from squats to rows to overhead presses in seconds for a complete full-body workout. Plus, barbells and weight plates are compact , making them easy to stack and store without overtaking your home gym setup.

Which plate and barbell bundle is best to buy?

If you're just starting into lifting or building out a casual weightlifting setup, buy 60kg weight plate bundle. If you are an intermediate lifter, choose 100kg weight plate bundle to give you plenty of room to hit serious PRs on your squats and bench. Then if you are an experience lifter, go straight for the 150kg weight plates bundle and save yourself from having to buy extra plates down the road.

What is the advantage of EZ bar instead of a straight barbell?

EZ bar promotes joint safety, comfort, and muscle isolation. When you use a straight barbell for bicep curls, your wrists are forced into a completely flat, palms-up position. This also creates strain on the wrists and forearms. The zig-zag bends of an EZ bar let you use a natural, angled grip that instantly takes the stress off your wrists and elbows. It forces your triceps to do the work. And lastly, you can do effective bicep curls with an EZ bar.

What barbell weight should beginners start?

Beginners in weight lifting should start with a 15kg barbell to master the form and proper technique for squats, press, snatches, and clean. Combining the bar with a 60kg weight plate set gives you plenty of room to grow, making sure you have everything you need to start making real progress.

What muscles does a barbell work?

Barbells are used for full-body strength training, so they target the major muscle groups, including the back, chest or pectorals, shoulders (deltoids), legs, including the quadriceps, hamstrings & glutes, arms, specifically the biceps and triceps, and the core muscles.

Do I need a plate rack for my weight plates?

Whether you're in a garage or a commercial studio, weight lifting racks keep your workout transition seamless and keep your floor safe from tripping. This also protects your weight plates from dropping and scratches.

Which plate rack is the best?
