What are competition kettlebells, and why are they different from cast iron?

Competition kettlebells are designed to stay the same size, regardless of their weight. Unlike standard kettlebells, which get bigger and chunkier as they get heavier. Northern competition kettlebells feature a polished steel handle and hollow design for stable weight distribution. With the competition kettlebell, you can also lift 8kg or 28kg, while your grip, hand position, and technique stay consistent. These are commonly used for kettlebell sport, functional fitness, and for smoother progress as you move up in weight.

What exercises can I do with competition kettlebells?

Competition kettlebells are built not just for kettlebell swings. You can also use these kettlebells for cleans, presses, snatches, Turkish get-ups, goblet squats, lunges, deadlifts, and full-body conditioning workouts. They're incredibly versatile, so you can use these to build strength, power, endurance, and coordination with just one piece of equipment.

What competition kettlebell weight should I start with?

The best ultimate starting point for a competition kettlebell is a 12kg competition kettlebell for women or a 16kg competition kettlebell for men. These weights are the sweet spot because they are heavy enough to force your core and hips to perform during explosive movements, but light enough that you won't lose control or wreck your form.

Are competition kettlebells better than cast iron kettlebells?

It depends on how you train. Competition kettlebells are highly suggested for technical lifts, high-rep workouts, and those who focus on consistent routines, while cast iron kettlebells are perfect for general strength training including two-handed swings that requires larger window.

How do I maintain my competition kettlebell?

Wipe the competition kettlebell after each training to remove sweat and chalk, store it somewhere dry or in your kettlebell rack and regularly check the finish for any signs of wear.

What is the advantage of steel competition kettlebells handle compared to regular kettlebells?

Competition kettlebells have a smaller, rectangular and a consistent size steel handle. This design helps prevent the bell from flipping over awkwardly, grip failing or your forearms cramping up just because you decided to jump to a heavier weight. The solid steel material also assures you more maximum durability with a perfectly smooth surface that won't chip, or scratch your hand.
